Stations Play Christmas Music

Several Salt Lake City FM stations have begun playing Christmas music as part of their line up until Christmas. FM 100-KSFI is starting a "Home for the Holiday's Campaign" featuring the slogan, "Utah's Christmas Tradition." Other known stations are B98.7-KBEE and 97.9 The Breeze-KBZN. If you know of other stations, as well as information write us.

KWUN Changes Calls?

KWUN is now KJQS. Seems a bit strange with a "KJQN" coming soon. The first indication is when their promos started changing to say "AM 1230..1230..1230...KJQ! The Sports Animal," instead of "1230 ESPN Radio". Here the new promo for yourself on the KJQS page.

KDYL's New Format

SIMMONS - Simmons Media's "Talkradio 1280 KDYL" (KDYL 1280 AM) will become "KZN 1280 The Zone" this Saturday. This is the format change to an all-sports format is only about one year after it's format change from adult standards to talk. KDYL's new calls will probably be something to the extent of KZZN, KZNN or maybe KUZN. Remember, KZN is a historic call to Salt Lake City, since it was KSL's original call letters.

KCPX Dumps Classic Rock

The new format is ... Alternative. The moniker ... "Channel 105-7"

10/31/01 MERCURY - Clear Channel's Mercury Broadcasting has chosen to dump Classic Rock from KCPX 105.7. The station is currently playing patriotic music, with promos such as "America....United.....KCPX." Apparently the president of KCPX will address listeners on Friday as to "why America needs to Hit Back at the Taliban." The words "hit" and "back" were emphasized and also was Trumper's old KCPX slogan "The Hits are Back." It could be likely that 70's or classic rock could be resumed after Friday, and that this stunt and nothing more than a stunt, to get a curious audience. But one thing makes this possibility unlikely. KCPX has diverted all of it's classic rock listeners to KURR-FM (Rock 99) with the promo line "If you want Classic Rock, go to Rock 99...that's 99 point 5..." Also KURR's "Classic Rock that really rocks..." is gone, and Alan of "Mick and Alan Mournings" has gone to KISN. It seems likely that Clear Channel realized that by indirectly owning two classic rock stations, that they were competing against themselves (something that should have been obvious from the start.) I
