1010 "The Q" - News

UPDATE - 04/23/02 - Joe Jackson said that there has been several offers to but KIQN over the past three years, but that's no surprise. As for the financial trouble of the LMA he said he had to "reserve comment," which is reasonable enough. He also stated that Lyle Morris was only doing fill-ins for traffic reporting since he's a temporary employee for Metro Traffic currently.

04/18/02 INTELLIQUEST - According to another tipster, KIQ's LMA company is now in financial trouble too. Lyle Morris (formerly with FM100) was also part of the lineup, but left after only two weeks to fill in for Michael Kavanagh at 97.9 The Breeze. Richard Linford has also apparently had an offer made by "one of the major players in the market," to sell the station.

Lyle Morris Now On The Breeze

UPDATE 04/23/02 - "Straight from the horse's mouth," Lyle Morris said that he's a fill-in person for Metro Traffic, and he's only filling in at the Breeze.

(15 APRIL 2002) - Lyle Morris, who recently disappeared (left or was let go) from FM 100, is now filling in the evening shift at Smooth Jazz 97.9 temporarily. Also according to a tipster, Lyle had formerly been involved at 1010 KIQN "The Q," but left after two weeks to go to The Breeze. Capital Broadcasting recently said that Lyle had "no connections to management," and that he is only filling in for the vacationing Michael G. Kavanagh. (Thanks Capital for letting us know.)

O'Reilly To KSL 1160

Bill O'Reilly, who's Cable TV show for FOX News Channel recently out-rated Larry King, is likely to become a figure of Salt Lake City radio. O'Reilly recently inked a deal for a national radio show which should begin in May or June from WOR in New York City - against Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Who's one of O'Reilly's first subscribers? According to a tipster, Radio Business Report (rbr.com), says that KSL 1160 has made a deal to air O'Reilly's new talk show, perhaps in the 10 AM to noon slot. So what does this mean for Doug Wright? Is he going to be completely bumped for national programming? And what does this mean for the future of KSL? KSL has seemed to be successful in the past because of it's strong local-oriented programming. Only time will tell. O'Reilly's show for Westwood One is scheduled to start May 8th.

Dan Bammes To KALL 910?

According to a tip-off to our "hotline", Dan Bamme has been heard recently doing news on KALL 910. That either means that he's now working for KALL, or for Airwatch, a news/traffic/weather service owned by Clear Channel.

Fisher Returns to the Radio

Fisher, formerly of Kisn 97's "Fisher, Todd, and Erin" returned to the Salt Lake City airwaves last week. He returns after four months of being off the air since he was let go by Clear Channel after the rating drop from the departure of Todd and Erin to B98.7. Fisher has joined school teacher Laura Bedore on Simmons Broadcasting's Hot AC Star 102.7. In a Deseret News column he said that he hoped to make a name for the show, and that Laura has unique talent that should make the show unique. The show time is in direct competition with Todd and Erin, his former colleagues.

Transmitter Changes for U92?

According to a tip-off to Utah Radio Guide, Marathon Media has big plans to expand the signal strenghth of it's CHR/Rythmic "U92." The station currently broacasts at 92.3 in Payson, and 92.1 in Tooele. The plan would be to move the Tooele transmitter to 92.3 and increase the signal strength. To allow them to do this, Marathon Media will pay Lee Family Broadcasting in Rupert, ID a six-figure amount to move it's KKMV from 92.5 to 102.9 and their KMVX from 102.9 to 92.7. This would create an interference free zone for a power increase, that would be noticeable throughout the valley. Also, it would create quite a media push (probably with billboards) letting listeners know that the station has moved to 92.3. Personally, I think the station will change names and become U92-3.

Little Ricky Leaves "The End"

According to a tip to the hotline, Little Ricky has left KENZ for KJQN (KJQ) and KXRK (X96).

UPDATE: According to other tipsters, "Little Ricky" left nearly a year ago.

UPDATE: "Little Ricky" wrote us and told us he went to work for SLOC, and has now gotten a job at Simmons Media.. His leaving Citadel Broadcasting was not to go work for Simmons, but to go work for SLOC. Now, he's just managed to get a job at Simmons.

94.9 ZHT Voicetracked Talent

According to a tip to the hotline, Lara Scott has moved into the midday slot on KZHT. She's not local, but voicetracked (to sound local) from KYSR "Star 98.7," a Hot AC station in Los Angeles, also owned by Clear Channel.
