KCPX Dumps Classic Rock

The new format is ... Alternative. The moniker ... "Channel 105-7"

10/31/01 MERCURY - Clear Channel's Mercury Broadcasting has chosen to dump Classic Rock from KCPX 105.7. The station is currently playing patriotic music, with promos such as "America....United.....KCPX." Apparently the president of KCPX will address listeners on Friday as to "why America needs to Hit Back at the Taliban." The words "hit" and "back" were emphasized and also was Trumper's old KCPX slogan "The Hits are Back." It could be likely that 70's or classic rock could be resumed after Friday, and that this stunt and nothing more than a stunt, to get a curious audience. But one thing makes this possibility unlikely. KCPX has diverted all of it's classic rock listeners to KURR-FM (Rock 99) with the promo line "If you want Classic Rock, go to Rock 99...that's 99 point 5..." Also KURR's "Classic Rock that really rocks..." is gone, and Alan of "Mick and Alan Mournings" has gone to KISN. It seems likely that Clear Channel realized that by indirectly owning two classic rock stations, that they were competing against themselves (something that should have been obvious from the start.)
